My Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping journey started in January 2012. I had received the 10-week session as a Christmas gift. I was very hesitant but knew that I needed to do something to change my ways.
I was pumped to start and was doing great with the diet and exercise. I made it to week two when I had gotten a stress fracture on the top of my left foot. I was devastated. Luckily, my coach let me know that they would take me out of that session and I could restart the next session. Fantastic, right?!
I started the next session with as much enthusiasm as the first time. I was doing well, until . . . allergy season kicked in and I fell ill with a massive sinus infection, respiratory infection and a virus. I was out for almost three weeks. I had been in communication either by email or phone with my coach, and towards the third week, the owner. But, somehow, I got lost in the mix and no further communication was had. So, I quit. I became bitter about my experience and harbored ill feelings . . . for a long time.
Fast forward to 2016. Our next door neighbor joined Farrell’s and started his session in January 2016 and won the 10-week challenge and $1,000 contest. Then, his wife joined and completed her 10-week session. Their next-door neighbor joined a session after that. They were all having amazing results.
In 2017, my husband enrolled. His session began in the summer of 2017 and he won the 10-week challenge and $1,000 contest. I was still bitter, but I helped him with his nutrition, and really noticed his amazing transformation. I was super proud of him.
At the 10-week party, where my husband, Dan, was announced the winner, the owner of Farrell’s Bellevue, Wayne Lewis, came and talked to us. Through the grapevine, he had heard about my experience five years ago and wanted to make things right. I was offered an opportunity to start over.
It only took me three days to realize that it would be stupid of me to not take Wayne up on his offer.
My session started in December 2017. I went to a different class time than before, knowing that it would be a smaller group. I had a new coach, and an overall new experience. My husband had perfect attendance during his 10-week session and so I let that be my personal goal - to have perfect attendance during mine. If he could do it, so could I.
I went in feeling shy and out of place. But, within a few weeks I was feeling better about myself, talking to other people in class and having fun. A FIT student had actually mentioned that I came in smiling and left smiling every day.
I remember being happy with my 5-week testing results. I put in the effort and it worked, I got good results. Knowing that it would take me longer to lose what I wanted to lose because of a thyroid issue, I still did fantastic. The morning of testing, we were all given a playing card. No matter what that card was, we were all told to be the best at that card. To this day, I still carry around my two of diamonds – because I am the best darn two there is!
By the eighth week, and I remember that day clearly, it was a Wednesday kickboxing day. For the first time ever, I was able to do a plank on elbows and toes, mountain climbers, and plank jacks the correct way. After class, I sat in my car and cried. I was so ecstatic. If you believe it, you can do it. The very next day, I enrolled in FIT.
At the end of my 10-week session, I had lost 15 pounds*, almost as many inches, and doubled my scores for the testing. And even though I didn’t win my session, I still made perfect attendance for the entire session. And of course, I won by finally completing a 10-week session.
I did thank Wayne for the opportunity to come back and make things right. The bitterness I held inside has vanished. Feelings of happiness and acceptance reside in its place. Thank you, Farrell’s, for giving me a third chance at changing my life and letting me work at a Level 10.
Now that I am a FIT member, I look forward to the challenges they give us. I want to help the new 10-week members out and be a motivator for them. To cheer them on and inspire them to get to Level 10 is a huge deal for me. If they show up every day and give it their all, I can too.
What I like about Farrell’s is that there is no judgment. No one cares what you do for a living, how much money you have, who you are, or even what you look like. In the end, we’re all there for the same reason, to get our life back - to get fit, and stay healthy.
When asked, “what is your why?” I don’t even hesitate to say my daughter, my husband and myself. We struggled for years with fertility issues, and through a miracle, and after several miscarriages, I had an embryo transfer and got pregnant. Our daughter came early, at 27 weeks. I blame myself, and my body, for her arriving so early. But she was a tiny fighter, and still is. I want to get healthy and fit so that I can be around to see her grow up and have a family of her own. And I want to do that with my husband by my side. He’s lost almost 50 lbs.* with Farrell’s and is still at it. He’s getting his life back on track and so am I. We’re doing this together and showing our daughter how to stay healthy and strong. She loves coming to the gym with us. Sometimes I can hear her voice in the very back saying “Go mommy! Win!” And that pushes me a little harder.
